DEAD MALL: South Mall, Allentown PA

JULY 2020 - ALLENTOWN, PA: South Mall spent the past few years trying to keep its head above water, but with the loss of both Bon-Ton and Limerick Furniture within a year, it's losing the fight. While it gained Cave Brewing and the fabulous consignment store South Mall Mercantile has expanded...it has lost many in-line tenants. Gone are GNC, Game Stop, Schuylkill Valley Sports, and all the jewelry stores. Other fly-by-night tenants are gone now as well. Claire's and Bath & Bodyworks plan to reopen soon, and the jury still seems out on whether (or when) Cave Brewing will open.

RAW VIDEO ALERT: This visit is from 23 July 2020 and was recorded using a dash-cam camera that has a fish-eye lens. As such, the video could not be stabilized, and there are brief moments of camera-shake when I transferred it from hand to hand to avoid detection.

This is a true "baby mall" that is surrounded by pseudo-anchors that are more so just major tenants in the strip-mall pieces attached to this tiny struggling indoor section of mall. Unfortunately, this may be the next Lehigh Valley area mall that will either have to adapt and de-mall, otherwise it's going to linger a sorry and down-trodden relic devoid of foot traffic.
