NASA vs Kerbal Space Program | Ares I-X

Ares I-X was NASA's 2009 developmental flight test for the Constellation program, which was tasked with establishing a sustained human presence beyond low-Earth orbit. It aimed to return astronauts to the Moon by 2020 and build a permanent lunar outpost. This mission was the first (and last) mission of the constellation program.

The Constellation program lives on through the Artemis Program of today (which recently sent humans back to the moon). The Space Launch System utilises a 5-segment version of the similar Shuttle-derived solid rocket motor. As well as this, the Orion spacecraft, originally destined for the Constellation program, was instead repurposed for the current, simplified Artemis Moon-to-Mars Program.
