SpaceX to Cancel Dragon even Falcon after Starship Launch..
SpaceX’s Starship transition is beginning to reshape the future of Falcon 9 and Dragon. After more than a decade of dominating global spaceflight, Falcon rockets may now be entering the early stages of retirement as SpaceX prepares Starship to become its next fully reusable launch system.
In this video, we explore SpaceX’s long-term plan to gradually phase out Falcon 9 and Dragon by the end of the decade, and why the company believes Starship could eventually replace them entirely. From Starlink deployment strategy and launch infrastructure changes to Mechazilla tower catches and rapid reusability, this video breaks down the technical and economic reasons behind one of the biggest transitions in modern aerospace history.
SpaceX to Cancel Dragon even Falcon after Starship Launch..
For over a decade, Falcon 9 and Dragon have dominated modern spaceflight.
They launched astronauts, deployed thousands of satellites, and turned SpaceX into the world’s most active launch company.
But now, SpaceX is preparing to retire them. Not because they failed.
Elon Musk believes Starship will eventually make the entire Falcon fleet obsolete.
Behind the scenes, SpaceX has already started shifting launch infrastructure, reducing Falcon operations in Florida, and preparing Starship to take over future missions.
But this transition comes with huge risks.
Unlike Falcon 9 — a rocket proven through hundreds of successful launches — Starship is still fighting skepticism over its reliability, reusability, and tower-catching system.
So why is SpaceX betting everything on Starship?
How has the firm planned to reduce the skepticism surrounding this new rocket?
SpaceX to Cancel Dragon even Falcon after Starship Launch..
Find out everything in today's Techmap episode!
Since its maiden launch on June 4, 2010, SpaceX’s Falcon 9 has transformed the global launch industry. What started as an ambitious reusable rocket experiment has evolved into the undisputed workhorse of modern spaceflight.
Over the last several years, Falcon 9 has dominated SpaceX’s orbital operations, becoming not only the company’s backbone but also the most frequently flown orbital rocket in history by a massive margin. In 2025 alone, SpaceX completed around 165 orbital launches — every single one using Falcon 9. That means roughly 85% of all US orbital launches that year relied on a single rocket family.
What makes that achievement even more incredible is the global comparison. Falcon 9’s annual launch count alone surpassed the total orbital launches of entire nations. China conducted around 90 launches in 2025, while Russia completed about 17. Falcon 9 outflew them all.
And it’s not just about quantity.
