LOCKED - Mutha's Day Out
MemphisMemories opens the music vault to unearth "LOCKED"... A very dark and powerful music video from Mutha's Day Out, an early post-hardcore/rapcore band that released one album, "My Soul is Wet", in 1993 for Chrysalis Records before breaking up.
EXCERPT FROM THE BAND'S BIO
Sick of life in Batesville, a city with a population of 9,000, Mikal Moore (vocals), Brice Stephens (raps), Chuck Schaaf (guitar), Jeff Mogan (bass) and Rodney Moffit (drums) formed Mutha's Day Out in late 1991. In April 1992 the band traveled to Memphis in search of a cheap recording studio. The band was booked to play the Crossroads Music Festival the very same week, thanks to a very supportive engineer named Doug Easley, who had produced Mutha's Day Out's first demo. In the same performance, Mutha's Day Out's first, a representative from Chrysalis Records was present, there to see another band. However, the representative at Chrysalis liked Mutha's Day Out so much they were offered the contract instead of the other band. They went to the studio to record their first and only album, "My Soul is Wet." The album was released on October 19th, 1993.
When the band first came together, Mikal was 20 years old, Brice was 18 years old, Chuck was 17 years old, Rodney was 17 years old, and Jeff was 15 years old. They were the youngest rock band to be signed by such a major label in years.Mutha's Day Out toured the United States and Europe from 1993 to 1994. They were opening for bands like Jackyl, Sugartooth, and the Bulletboys.
Today, Mikal Moore is in a band called Gazer, in Arkansas. Brice Stephens has returned to Batesville, Arkansas after a 2-year stay in Florida and is jamming with Rodney Moffitt. Chuck Schaaf formed a band called Deadbird with his brother, Phillip Schaaf, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Jeff Morgan now plays drums for a band called Rwake, out of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
