AWE Tuning Exhaust: Touring or Track? Sounds, Installation tips & Review. MKVI Jetta MK6

I recently installed AWE Tuning’s touring exhaust on my 2012 Jetta (MKVI/2011-2018), and then decided to upgrade for the Track Edition. I decided I’d share my thoughts on both editions (Sounds comparison, installation tips and review), as I didn’t find that many helpful videos on the topic prior to my purchase. Hopefully it’ll help some of you out there!

Tips (as seen in the video)
- 1. Make sure the vehicle is safely lifted by using certified axle stands;
- 2. Exhaust must be cut off in the middle of the last straight pipe right before the muffler;
- 3. The Best tool for cutting the exhaust pipe is A Reciprocating Saw;
- 4. Unsure about which exhaust to order (Touring or Track)? How about both for practically the price of one!? Here's how: --- a) Order one of the 2 exhaust --- b) Order the end part of the other edition directly from AWE for about $120 (Track)!
You can then change the exhaust end at will, simply by unscrewing 1 pipe clamp, 1 post hanger clamp, and switching the tips!
- 5. use hand soap to remove hanger posts from rubber elements, it will help the hanger post tip to slide out!
- 6. If you ever want to put the OEM exhaust back on, order part number 1K0 253 141N from your local vw dealer. It's a clamp that will hold the two sawed off parts together;
- 7. Use the wrapping paper that came with awe's exhaust to wrap the 2 old exhaust parts for storage, so they don't get scratched, and store them in a humidity-controlled area;
- 8. As the old exhaust parts might still contain water from condensation, make sure that both extremities of both parts are not covered with protective paper to prevent rust;
- 9. When first putting the new parts in, don't tighten the clamps all the way, let them loose a little, so that you can easily adjust the whole exhaust when all parts are in;
- 10. Make sure the hanger posts clamps are fully tightened. Those can easily slide off under usage;
- 11. Once all the exhaust parts are installed and adjusted, do not forget to tighten all the exhaust clamps, make sure to inspect them one by one;
- 12. When installing the tips, take into consideration that when hot, the exhaust can grow in length aproximately 1''. In my experience, it grew no more than 2/5th of an inch;
- 13. My Mkv1 has the Votex body kit. The exhaust tips fitted, but they were in contact with the bumper. in order to avoid damage due to heat or friction, here is what I did: I inserted 3 washers between the metal bracket holding the rubber element and the frame on each of both screws, which lowered the exhaust and the exhaust tips.

Car upgrades
- Body kit: Name: Votex. Made by Volkswagen. Purchased it and got it installed at the dealer. The kit came with a spoiler but I decided to not to have it installed, as I preferred the look without;
- Wheels: O.Z. Superturismo LM silver painted, size 19x8.5. Got them at a local Rim shop;
- Exhaust: AWE tuning (Track and Touring editions) with polished silver tips ( https://www.awe-tuning.com/mk6-jetta-2-5l-exhaust ). Got them through a local distributor;
-Suspension: ST coilovers ( http://www.stsuspensions.com/products/st-suspensions-11-13-vw-jetta-vi-sedan-se-sel-13280117.html ). Got it through a local distributor;

My recommendation:

I personally prefer the Track over the touring. Here’s why:
1 - With the Track, you can still limit the strength of the sound, by staying in lower RPMs, which is useful for residential areas, and for being respectful to your neighbors;

2 - There is a little more droning with the track edition at some speeds but, the difference with the touring is not that big in my opinion. The supplement of droning is worth the amazing sound;

3 - The idle sound is much better: Deeper and lower, without being that much louder than the touring;

4 - With the track, I noticed that there is a nice cracking/rumbling sound when engine braking. Never really heard that with the touring edition;

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask in the comments section.

I hope this video helped!!
