Anyone who wished to enter the Sydney Harbour 'Green Zone' on New Year's Eve needed to apply for an entry pass, with prime firework vantage points being designated for frontline workers.

People have been encouraged to limit non-essential gatherings over the New Year period where possible to further minimise the risk of transmission in the community.
