Roland JX-3P | A Fantastic Classic!
The Roland JX-3P - Programmable Preset Polyphonic - From 1983
One of the best looking synths of all time, also one of the better sounding ones. Often over shadowed by the Junos, but that's because it didn't have the faders and knobs.
Inside it has more in common with the Jupiter series, especially the Jupiter 6. Two oscillators per voice and detune, makes it capable of a lot more versatile sound than the Junos.
It has a sort of metallic shine to it, the filter is a little crude, but with careful programming it can sound warm and inviting.
The sequencer is a wonderful addition and I like it even more then the arpeggiators on the Juno 6/60, even though they're fun as well.
The filter chip is the same as in the Juno-60 and the 3P has analog BBD chorus to add to the richness.

Thanks to Alex Ball for the cameo-apperance!
The live jam was made with the DAW, through a Doepfer MSY-2 sync box, sending a clock pulse to the Sequencer Trigger In on the JX-3P. That way I could record the jam in time, and add the snare in post.
The MSY-2 also sends MIDI clock to the TR-626 for the rest of the drums.

Growing up I listened to so much synth-pop and it's only natural that my own music takes inspiration from many of the acts I loved back then. I still love them and listen to them!
Howard Jones, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Erasure, Thompson Twins, Tears for Fears, The Human League, Propaganda. FGTH, Ultravox, OMD, Eurythmics, Duran Duran, Giorgio Moroder, Jean Michel Jarre, Jan Hammer, Alphaville, A-ha as well as loads of artists doing what is now called Italo Disco. And many more great acts like Nik Kershaw, Spandau Ballet, Wham, Dire Straits ++
