Best Credit Card Setup Under $100 | Chase Trifecta 2021

The Chase Trifecta is the best credit card setup under $100 in 2021. This credit card strategy is for both beginners and experienced credit card users who are looking to earn points or cash back from their spending. It consists of the Chase Freedom Flex, the Chase Freedom Unlimited, and the Chase Sapphire Preferred credit cards.

In this video I’ll explain why this specific credit card setup for under $100 per year could be the most effective setup for the majority of people watching this. And while it obviously isn’t completely free due to the annual fee on one of the 3 cards, I’m going to talk about how the benefits you get and the points you earn from this setup will far outweigh the costs, so stay tuned. If you are just looking for a straight-forward, affordable, and basic setup that still gives you an excellent return on your spending that you can use for travel, cash back, and other things, but don’t want to do all of the research that this requires, then I think that the Chase Trifecta of cards is the best option for you.

So starting off with the Chase Freedom Flex which is a no annual fee card. Now Chase markets this as a “cash back” card when describing the rewards in its marketing materials. But when you read the fine print, cash back is actually earned as Chase Ultimate Rewards Points. And $1 in cash back is equal to 100 Points. So while you are technically earning points, you can turn those into cash back and redeem them for statement credits at a 1 Cent per Point valuation. On the Freedom Flex, you are earning 5X points on every dollar spent on rotating quarterly categories, 5X points on travel booked through Chase, 3X points on dining and takeout, 3X points on drug stores like Walgreens and CVS, and 1X points on all other purchases. And I just want to note that these 5X categories can only be maxed out at $1,500 in spending per quarter so the most points that you can earn per quarter is 7,500 points which is equal to $75 at a 1 cent per point valuation. As of now in March 2021, the current sign-up bonus for the Freedom Flex is $200 in cash back which converts to 20,000 Ultimate Rewards Points after you spend $500 in the first 3 months from account opening.

Next up is the Chase Freedom Unlimited which is also a no annual fee card. Just like the Freedom Flex, Chase markets the rewards as cash back, but its really earned as Ultimate Rewards Points. The Unlimited is very similar to the Flex because it earns 5X points on travel booked through Chase, 3X on dining and takeout, and 3X on drug stores. But where the Unlimited is different from the Flex is that instead of earning 5X points on rotating quarterly categories, the Unlimited instead earns 1.5X points on everything else instead of 1X on everything else. So in this setup, the Freedom Unlimited is a good “catch-all” card to use if you are making a purchase that doesn’t fall under one of the higher point earning categories. The Freedom Unlimited also gives you some similar extra benefits and protections like the Freedom Flex, but again most of these will be better on the next card in the setup, the Sapphire Preferred. As of March 2021, the sign-up bonus on the Freedom Unlimited is also $200 in cash back which converts to 20,000 Ultimate Rewards Points after you spend $500 in the first 3 months.

And last but not least is the final card in the Chase Trifecta setup which is the Sapphire Preferred. This card has a $95 annual fee so this is a bit of a premium reward card because you have to pay Chase to have it. With this card, you will get 2X points on dining and takeout and travel along with temporary 2X points on groceries through April 30, 2021. But the best part about this card is the 25% travel redemption value multiplier. So what that means is that instead of redeeming your points at a 1 cent per point valuation for statement credits like I talked about earlier in this video, you can get 1.25 cents per point when you redeem for travel through Chase. The additional protections that you get with this card are great for traveling too. You get primary rental car coverage, great trip cancellation and interruption insurance that is better than the flex and unlimited cards, purchase protection, extended warranties, and things like that on the screen now. The welcome bonus as of March 2021 is 60,000 Ultimate Reward points after you spend $4,000 in the first 3 months of having the card, as well as a $50 grocery credit when you spend money with the card at the grocery store within the first 12 months.
