A DAY IN THE VILLAGE PAHAMPDEM

Pahampdem is a village in Ri Bhoi District of Meghalaya a state in the North East of India. This Village is inhabited by a tribe called the Mikirs also known as Karbis who inhabit the Karbi Anglong District of the neighbouring state of Assam. The Mikirs are an old people who are indigenous to the area in Ri Bhoi. Basically Farmers and cultivators, the Mikirs have their own culture, customs and traditions. What makes them different from the other tribes of Meghalaya is the fact that they follow the Patrilineal system, but have also assimilated to the khasi customs and traditions. Here we will also look at their culinary habits.
