Salish Sea Salt Caramel Bar | Sustaining Fuel for the Long Haul
A step-by-step tutorial for making a dense, salt-balanced energy bar designed for long efforts on the trail.
The Salish Sea Salt Caramel Bar is part of my Three Energy Bars, One Trail System. A simple approach to trail food built around purpose, balance, and sustained energy rather than quick sugar hits.
This bar is designed for the long haul. It leans into dense calories, steady carbohydrates, fats, and salt. The things your body starts asking for as the miles stack up and effort becomes continuous. The caramel brings warmth and familiarity, while sea salt keeps energy and hydration in balance during extended movement.
In this video, I walk through:
How this bar fits into the 3 Bar System.
Why dense calories and salt matter during long efforts.
The full preparation process from start to finish.
This is the bar I reach for when the day stretches on, conditions change, or I need fuel that stays reliable without feeling like dessert.
How It Fits Into the System.
Within the 3 Bar System, the Salish Sea Salt Caramel Bar acts as the sustaining anchor, complementing the steady, mineral-focused Kombu–Sesame Sea Bar and the quick-start Summit Sunrise Bar.

Written recipes, ingredient sourcing notes, nutritional details, and the equipment I use are shared inside the Cascadia Collective for those who want to explore the full process.
This video focuses on the Salish Sea Salt Caramel Bar.
Tutorials for the other two bars in the system are available separately.
