BAE Systems restarts production of the M777 towed howitzer
BAE Systems has announced the restart of production for the structures of its M777 lightweight howitzer, following an initial deal with the U.S. Army worth up to USD 50 million.
The British defence company plans to collaborate with its suppliers in the UK and the U.S. to produce the titanium structures, targeting the first deliveries for 2025. BAE Systems is set to commence deliveries while finalizing the contract’s details and its total value.
The company has reported a surge in interest for the M777 gun system across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The structures for the howitzers are manufactured in Barrow-in-Furness, Britain, with assembly and testing conducted in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
This contract also opens up opportunities for new and existing users to join a new M777 production initiative, benefiting from a hot production line and economies of scale.
