Interview: Karol – football coach
My name is Karol. I am 51 years old. I am married and have one daughter. I have been doing Aikido for 7 years. I am a football coach and I stumbled upon Aikido when I was experiencing a more difficult period of my football carrier – I was made to leave a certain club.
Firstly, I thought of trying Karate but I was afraid of someone breaking my jaw. Then I came to a friend of mine who was practicing Karate at the time and I asked him if he could help me find some good place to train Aikido; he recommended Kurilla Budokan. I gave it a try and was amazed. All of a sudden, I found out that there was something like etiquette and that there was another boss: Sensei Kurilla. Getting acquainted with this strict etiquette was a certain shock for me – a certain change – but I must admit this did not prove problematic for me. Quite the contrary, I discovered in me sort of a hidden potential: for inner purification and fantastic humility, seeing what our instructors are capable of, what our Sensei is capable of, what Hitohira Saito Sensei is capable of, whose last two seminars I took part in. This turned out to be a marvellous opportunity to get to know yet another magnificent person. I am going to continue in this journey as long as I am able to and as long as I am physically healthy and fit.
