Vehicle Load Testing | Bedford FRP Bridge Performance

Can a fiberglass-reinforced polymer (FRP) pedestrian bridge support an emergency vehicle? Bedford Reinforced Plastics put it to the test.

Working with West Virginia University, Bedford conducted the first-known full-scale test of a 100' x 10' FRP bridge designed to accommodate a single H5 emergency vehicle. Using nearly 10,000 pounds of simulated vehicle weight, the bridge performed exactly as predicted, demonstrating its ability to support pedestrian traffic and emergency access when it matters most.
