Trying to estimate how many tanks any given country has is very difficult. Often, countries may not really release statistics, meaning one has to guesstimate. Additionally, many countries may keep many of these tanks in reserve. But what sort of reserve? You can keep them mothballed, serviced, and ready to be taken out of the reserve, greased up and fuelled up, and then they're ready for action.

Or you can let them rust and seize up over 30 years, meaning not only are they hopelessly out of date, but also just rusted buckets of useless metal.
