How I use my iPad at UChicago✨ | Does it replace my laptop for college?

What’s up tanners!

In this video I go over how I take notes using my iPad at UChicago: I cover anywhere from the basic functions to my favourite things within GoodNotes5, why I don’t think Things3 is a worthy purchase and who exactly I would recommend to use Notability (and for what reason)! I think that an iPad is a very good choice for a non-computer science or non-Stats major, and basically replaces my laptop for everyday usage. I can live without my laptop for weeks (given I don’t have R Studio or Stata homework), but I need my iPad everyday for basic things. Essentially, it has become part of my routine.

I also want this video to be a reminder to everyone who might feel daunted about taking notes on an iPad because they “won’t look pretty” — you DO NOT NEED to take beautiful or aesthetic notes. Those don’t work for everyone!

Some people feel more accomplished and motivated to study with pretty notes, but I for example do not. In fact, notes that are too beautiful actually make me retain knowledge slower because my brain isn’t trying to absorb and understand the whole page at once, but rather tries to preserve its beauty (I can talk a bit more about this but it’s an actual learning trick, such as bad handwriting keeping focus for longer and using a maximum of 3 colours to hold attention).
