Post-COVID HBOT Treatment

In most cases, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is excellent for COVID patients. Anybody in the field doing hyperbaric right now is going to tell you the same thing.

However, there are certain consequences of COVID that are going to include damage to the lung tissue. In some of those cases, alveolar cysts have appeared leading someone to a pneumothorax.

A pneumothorax is a contraindication of HBOT, so if a patient has one, they are not allowed to go in a hyperbaric chamber, 100% of the time.

So if you have a patient who's post-COVID who is still having trouble breathing, or when increased exertion causes a massive reduction in their ability to breathe or catch their breath, you might just want to send that patient out for a quick chest X-ray to check for alveolar cysts and pneumothorax.

If those are clear, then they are good to go.
