My Chemical Romance Producer, Howard Benson - Pensado's Place #390

BIO:
For nearly five decades Producer Howard Benson has sold over 40 million records and produced more than 150 albums by some of the most successful and creative acts on the charts.
He’s worked on many varied projects and films such as the new Mötley Crüe biopic “The Dirt”, The X Factor, and American Idol. As the go-to producer for some of music’s biggest names, Benson has lent his ears and talent to some of the music industry’s most celebrated bands, to name a few… My Chemical Romance, P.O.D., Hoobastank, Papa Roach, Gavin DeGraw, Santana, Flyleaf, The All American Rejects, and many more. He is the producer behind five double platinum certified albums with Kelly Clarkson, Bon Jovi, and Rascal Flatts, and also produced Daughtry’s 5x platinum debut which was the fastest selling debut album in Soundscan history.
Howard Benson is currently enjoying success with a number of recent projects, including Three Days Grace and their latest single “Infra-Red” which went #1 on the mainstream rock charts, is Benson’s 8th #1 with the band, and Three Days Grace now has the most #1 rock singles of all-time (surpassing Van Halen with their 14th #1). “Infra-Red” is their 2nd #1 on this album, with “The Mountain” reaching #1 on the Active Rock and Mainstream Rock charts earlier this year.
Up & coming releases include Joyous Wolf and their debut single/cover of “Mississippi Queen”, plus keep a look out for New Jersey based Palisades and their new album courtesy of Rise Records. Of Mice & Men’s album Defy charted #3 on the U.S. Top Hard Rock charts, #1 on iTunes Rock and Metal charts and top 50 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. In addition, All That Remains’ album Madness reached #1 on Billboard’s Top Hard Rock Albums chart, top 50 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and #1 on the iTunes Rock and Metal charts. Their cover of the Garth Brooks song “Thunder Rolls” currently sits at over 14 million YouTube views. Benson also finished the new In Flames album, which releases next year, and previously produced their EP of cover songs entitled Down, Wicked & No Good. In addition, Howard produced YouTube star Lia Marie Johnson’s single “DNA“ which has over 15 million views on YouTube and over 24 million streams on Spotify.
Before his career in music, Howard earned his BS in Materials Engineering at Drexel University. After graduating, Howard worked as an aerospace engineer while continuing to play in various bands around LA. He began producing music for local bands, like the successful record for punk band TSOL, but his breakout success came with a hit single for the band Bang Tango. Since then, he’s received two “Producer Of The Year” Grammy nominations and held the position of Senior Vice President of A&R for Elektra Records and Giant Records.
On the commercial audio front, Howard Benson has liaised with STL Tones to create the STL Howard Benson Bundle: Kemper Edition, comprised of Benson’s custom collection of vintage gear that gives users an all-access pass to Benson’s mix ready guitar tones from his biggest records.
Throughout the years, Howard Benson’s connection with Drexel University has remained solid and pro-active. He received a Doctorate of Humane Letters in 2015, was inducted into the World Association for Cooperative Education Hall of Fame in 2009 and into the Drexel 100 in 2011. He has also established The Benson Outreach Endowed Scholarship Fund and has provided support for a new recording studio at Drexel. Benson continues to teach Drexel music industry students remotely via Skype in a Production Master Class and he has employed co-op students at his Woodland Hills, CA studio.
