Role of Basal Cell–derived WNT7A in Fibrogenesis in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic inflammatory lung disease characterized by loss of epithelial integrity and fibroblast activation. While basal cells have been implicated in IPF pathology, their precise role is not clear. A new study in the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology highlights the role of basal cell-derived WNT7A in fibroblast activation and fibrogenesis in IPF.
