Number Sense in Action: Developing Mathematical Thinkers Grades K-6

Number sense, or understanding of numbers and number relationships, is important to learning math. With a strong foundation in number sense, students are better equipped to solve problems, understand more advanced mathematical concepts, and approach math with a positive mindset.

In this presentation, Dr. Elizabeth Hughes demonstrates number sense across grade levels and shares evidence-based practices to develop and strengthen this critical understanding, including considerations for students with learning disabilities and the role of language when learning math. Activities for both school and home will be shared.
