MaKayla Rebekah Dyer was born on 13 September 2007 to Tony and Latasha Dyer. She was the youngest of three and lived with her mom and siblings in a mobile home park in White Pine, Tennessee.

White Pine is a small rural town with just over 2000 residents. Everyone knows each other and the young ones play freely together. MaKayla was described as a quiet and polite little girl who loved playing in the dirt and wearing plastic tiaras. She was in third grade at White Pine Elementary school and performed well in class.

Just like many girls her age, MaKayla’s favorite movie was Frozen. She would watch it all the time and even knew all the words by heart. She especially loved Queen Elsa and always wanted to look and dress like her, with a blue sparkling dress and a tiara.

Next to MaKayla’s home lived a boy by the name of Benjamin Tiller. He had five siblings and attended the same school as MaKayla, though he was in fifth grade.

On the Saturday evening of October 3, 2015, MaKayla, her sister, and another girl were playing out in the yard, near Benjamin’s house. Benjamin was watching them through his bedroom window as his parents watched a high school football game in another room.

MaKayla had celebrated her birthday just a couple of weeks before and had been given a puppy as a birthday present. So on this day, Benjamin asked MaKayla if he could see her puppy but MaKayla refused. Benjamin then said that he’ll be right back and disappeared inside the house.

A few moments later, he came back holding a 12-gauge shotgun and a BB gun and told the girls that he had guns. The girls laughed at him saying that they didn’t believe that they were real. But then Benjamin did something completely shocking and that would change everyone’s life forever.

“He pointed a BB gun at them. He hit, misfired or something, you know, and threw it down on the grass and he went and got the shotgun.”

He pointed the shotgun through the window at MaKayla and fired at her. The bullet hit MaKayla on the chest and she fell backward as the other girls screamed in horror. Keep watching to get the rest of the story...
