Sometimes the basic step is NOT the best way to lead/follow 😉 | Magna Gopal & Panagiotis #dancetips

Every dance I have with this wonderfully creative dancer, Panagiotis Aglamisis (Greece), is always fun, challenging, and entertaining for me as a follow.

He's got some very fancy turn patterns and to be honest, following him is much easier when I focus on his hands and the direction of his lead than strictly adhering to my basic step.

So often we learn things such as the basic step and think that not doing the step might give the impression that we don't know how to dance properly.

But you don't need to mark the basic to keep time. If you know where the beat is, know where your weight should be, and truly understand the fundamentals of the dance, then you can enter and exit the basic step & timing as you please without interfering with the lead or follow.

The next time you dance, as a lead or follow, think about your basic and see if it's aiding or interfering with your lead-follow connection or musicality.

🤔 How do YOU approach your basic step & timing?
