2. Various of workers using wooden sticks to clear notes
3. Notes placed in plastic bags
4. Various of Jews praying at the Western Wall
5. Pan of Jews praying at Western Wall
STORYLINE:
Workers used wooden sticks to clear the notes placed between the ancient stones of the Western Wall on Sunday ahead of the Jewish New Year.
Countless handwritten notes are placed daily by visitors who believe their prayers might find a way to God by being deposited at Judaism's holiest site.
The notes, considered sacred, will later be buried on the nearby Mount of Olives.
The operation is carried out twice a year: before Rosh Hashanah and before the holiday of Passover in the spring.
Jews revere the Western Wall -- the holiest site where Jews can pray -- as a remnant of the biblical Temple that stood in antiquity.
