Bond Enthalpies

In a chemical reaction, bonds are broken and bonds are formed. Breaking a bond requires a certain amount of energy called the bond enthalpy. When making the same bond, that amount of energy is released.
A table of bond enthalpies can be used to predict reaction enthalpy changes.
