Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month: Airbags Save Campaign: Real-life Survivor Shares His Story

As Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month kicks off, Cycle Gear® is bringing back the Airbags Save campaign to spotlight the importance of rider safety with expert insights, real-world experiences, and the latest protective gear designed to help reduce injuries on the road.

This year’s segment features a powerful personal perspective from Guilherme Ortigosa, a motorcycle crash survivor who credits his airbag jacket with saving his life. He will share what happened during the crash and why investing in protective gear is critical for every rider. Joining him is Cycle Gear President Stevan Popovich, who will break down the latest advancements in rider protection and offer practical safety tips for riders of all experience levels.

Safe riding practices and cooperation from all road users will help reduce the number of fatalities and injuries on our nation’s highways. Motorcyclists remain among the most vulnerable on the road. According to NHTSA, more than 6,300 riders were killed in 2023, and riders are nearly 24 times more likely to die in a crash than those in passenger vehicles. Experts say helmet use and protective gear remain some of the most important factors in reducing serious injuries and saving lives.
