Visiting the Grave of Isaac Hayes | Memphis Soul Legend

Today on Backroads, we’re in Memphis, Tennessee, visiting the grave of Isaac Hayes — one of the most important voices in soul music history. 🎶

Born in Covington, TN, Isaac Hayes rose to fame at Stax Records, co-writing hits like Soul Man before becoming a legend in his own right. In 1971, he won an Academy Award for the unforgettable Theme from Shaft, a song that redefined film music forever.

Hayes was also an actor, philanthropist, and the voice of Chef on South Park. He passed away in 2008 at the age of 65, and now rests here in Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis.
