🇺🇸 Saint-Mihiel Offensive: America’s First Major WWI Victory

On September 12, 1918, the U.S. Army launched the Saint-Mihiel Offensive in northeastern France — its first major independent operation of World War I.

Led by General John J. Pershing, over 500,000 American troops forced German forces to retreat in just four days, capturing thousands of prisoners and liberating territory held since 1914.

This victory proved the strength of the American Expeditionary Forces and set the stage for the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, which helped end the war two months later.
