Prairie River Home: Niobrara National Scenic River

“Prairie River Home” celebrates the rich natural and cultural history of the Niobrara National Scenic River. A sustaining life force for generations, the Niobrara is an unexpected oasis in the arid sandhills of northern Nebraska. The river flows through a unique ecological crossroads where six distinct ecosystems converge, and where eastern and western plant and animal species coexist at the extreme edges of their range. This free-flowing river has attracted people to its shores since ancient times, but it was almost lost to development until local landowners, ranchers, and conservationists banded together to save it.
