2017 Volkswagen Golf R - New Engine and FR450 Kit from HPA Motorsports

Hey everyone!

We finally got in all the parts to complete the FR450 build on the MK7 Golf R!

The customer came in because of a severe chattering, and a low oil pressure light. We found, after dropping the oil pan, the "performance" clutch that was installed was too stiff, and pushed the crank right into the thrust bearings, causing a bottom end failure.

While this wasn't the ideal situation, it surely was an opportunity. Having seen our HPA builds in the past, he expressed interest in a build, and fortunately we were able to snag an ultra low mileage engine, with HPA's FR450 Turbo already installed! HPA hooked us up on this one, they got it shipped out to us quickly, and, as you see, very well packaged.

Once we got the new engine installed, we got a new HPA catted downpipe installed, and intercooler, similar to the previous IS38 Hybrid build we did a couple years ago. It's very interesting to have both cars built, and in the shop at the same time that we can compare the difference in drive feel between the DSG and the manual.

After performing the tune, and verifying everything was in working order, the car was ready for the customer to pick up. His reaction to the car was extremely positive.

This platform takes tuning very well, and they seem to be fairly stout (when using high quality parts, and having qualified professionals install them). These, as well as the GTI's are an excellent platform for any build, whether you are looking to eek out a few more horses, or you want to go all out and make a monster.

Soon we will be building a MK7 GTI with a similar kit as in this video, but we will also be installing an LSD (Limited Slip Differential) to help put the power down, because anyone who has a MK7 GTI knows... they like to break traction. A lot.
