The Other Side of Making Your Own Lumber
If you're making your own lumber, you know exactly what I mean by the other side of making your own lumber and the challenges it presents. Today I'm doing just that as I take rough sawn spruce, poplar and pine cut from trees on my property and turn them into finished pieces of dimensional lumber using nothing more than a benchtop portable planer. Check out the tips I talk about in this video to show you when blades are sharp and when they are dull. With some basic tools you can finish making your rough sawn lumber in beautiful smooth pieces of lumber ready for any project. In this video I also mention some other tools other than the planer that may be useful if you're just starting out with finishing (aka "dressing") rough sawn lumber. I also take time in the shop today to setup my Grindlux 4000 blade sharpener as sold by Woodland Mills to touch-up and sharpen a dull Lenox blade that I use on my Woodland Mills HM130 portable sawmill. Nothing likely the smell of dust in the air (I actually have a dust filter running to clean the air in my shop) and the feel of smooth freshly-sawn lumber to get the feels going. Great day all around in the shop. Hope everyone is well out there!
