2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee WK CRD Diesel OM642 Broken Glow Plug Removal

Applies to any Mercedes or Sprinter with an OM642. HOW TO DIY

The better option is to buy a puller kit for 8 and 10 mm glow plugs. This would be way better than trying to cobble something together after the fact like I did. You have anywhere between a 100% and 600% chance of having a broken glow plug so be prepared. My slide hammer plan did not work out, there just wasn't enough space on that cylinder.

***This method is dangerous and could seriously harm or kill somebody if they get hit by the glow plug, cover the glow plug with towels/boards, seal yourself up in the Jeep, and make sure nobody is around when you run the engine! It comes out so fast you can't even see it running the video in slow motion.***

Stuff required:
-8 and 10 mm Glow Plug Removal and Repair Kit
-3/16" & 1/4" square tap extensions or Lisle tap sockets
-1/4" drive extensions
-8 mm 3/8" drive extra deep socket
-1/4" male x 3/8" female drive adapter
-ez-out kit
-hex drive 3/16" drill bit
-hex drive 7/32" drill bit
-telescoping magnet
-ceramic glow plug grease

Steps
-unscrew glow plug as much as possible
-snap off electrical connector
-pilot drill with 3/16"
-use an ez-out and remove as much of the glow plug as possible
-drill in quite deep with the 7/32" bit, make sure you leave about 1" of the larger shank undrilled so the electrode doesn't drop in to the engine
-use a bigger ez-out and remove even more of the glow plug
-start up the engine a few times
