On Prime Time, we take a look at how the media as well as politicians stereotype Muslims as 'votebanks' and take it for granted that all Muslims vote alike. Despite the diversity in terms of language, culture and traditions across the country, are all Muslims in India alike? While the right wing parties demonise people of the Muslim community to garner Hindu votes, the left wing parties don't hesitate in appealing to Muslim voters to vote for them to make sure that the right doesn't win. Later on the show, Ravish Kumar speaks to Hilal Ahmed, Associate Professor, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies on his book 'Siyasi Muslims', which seeks to address the common misconceptions about Muslims and includes his studies about diversity in Muslim beliefs, traditions and political alignments.
