DCS Huey flight model testing

For quite a long while I was bothered by a particular point in Blade Element Theory based helicopter flight models (X-Plane, AFS2, YaSim, etc.), even though I could not quite put my finger on it until I saw someone who definitely didn't have any hours clocked in a real cockpit and yet managed to identify it exactly, putting all kinds of "real pilots" to shame.
That man is known as Robin Takolander, a fellow YouTube simmer. What exactly did he point out? The fact that in the majority of "ultra realistic" helicopter addons in forward flight you could dump the collective and barely experience any lift loss for a long while, smoothly bleeding airspeed as if doing a landing flare in a plane.
"He's exactly right!", said I to myself at the same time realizing just how much more accounting for vorticity effects means to coming up with a proper helicopter flight model. And that's why with those helicopter flight dynamics models it's such a pain to shed airspeed quickly, not to mention performing all those flashy "hot LZ" quick landings.

There is also quite another thing getting in the way of enjoying simulated helicopter flight that tends to rear its ugly head surprisingly often. And that is the reaction of the helicopter to full pedal in forward flight. You can sometimes find examples of a simulated helicopter doing 360° barely losing any forward momentum... sometimes even under the power pedal! One good example here is the Lynx mod created by a yet another "real pilot" for AFS2. So, ask yourself... Should you really be paying attention to the ad BS about "real pilots"? Pilots are humans too. Many of them barely even started with simulations, still many more don't care one bit, so they could give "a seal of approval" to a GTA helicopter as easily... Humans can be extremely subjective until they learn some objectivity.

Anyhow, this here is a pretty old, well-known helicopter module for DCS. It definitely doesn't feel like an IDEAL virtual Huey representation, but at least I'd dare anyone to find a better Huey sim (for civilian market). And here I'm showing how it addresses the above points. This is why in my personal opinion the DCS Huey is a benchmark against which other helicopter simulations should be measured.
That said, I'm very positive it asks for too little power pedal in a hover...
