American Truck Simulator: VR gameplay with HTC Vive and racing wheel

Virtual reality gameplay from American Truck Simulator with a force feedback racing wheel and the HTC Vive.

American Truck Simulator is a $19.99 trucking simulation game for PC that supports VR with the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift virtual reality headsets. ATS is not listed as a VR game on Steam, you have to activate VR through the beta menu under properties and select a beta release that supports HTC Vive and Oculus Rift VR.

American Truck Sim is one of the most immersive experiences in VR once you get the game set up properly. For the video the graphics are set to Ultra with scaling at 100%, MSAA/DOF turned off, and manual_stereo_buffer_scale at 1.5. This makes the graphics look very sharp in VR while wearing the HTC Vive HMD.

You can play American Truck Simulator in VR using mouse and keyboard, controller, a racing wheel, or other USB controllers. It does not support the HTC Vive motion controls or the Oculus Rift Touch controllers. For this video I used a force feedback racing wheel because it offers feedback based on actions in the game and feels more like a real steering wheel. I am using a Thrustmaster T150 racing wheel which is the cheapest force feedback steering wheel you can buy. I also use several other simulation accessories to improve the immersion of Euro Truck Simulator 2 in VR:
