It doesn't interest me
what you do for a living.
I want to know
what you ache for
and if you dare to dream
of meeting your heart's longing.
It doesn't interest me
how old you are.
I want to know
if you will risk
looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.
It doesn't interest me
what planets are
squaring your moon...
I want to know
if you have touched
the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened
by life's betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.
I want to know
if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.
I want to know
if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you
to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us
to be careful
to be realistic
to remember the limitations
of being human.
It doesn't interest me
if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear
the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.
I want to know
if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
"Yes."
It doesn't interest me
to know where you live
or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.
It doesn't interest me
who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.
It doesn't interest me
where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know
what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.
I want to know
if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like
the company you keep
in the empty moments.

Peu importe comment tu gagnes ta vie. Ce que je veux savoir, c'est l'objet de ce désir qui brûle en toi à t'en faire mal ; ce que je veux savoir, c'est si tu oses, ne serait-ce que rêver de réaliser le désir profond de ton coeur
Peu importe l'âge que tu as. Je veux savoir si tu es prêt à risquer de passer pour un fou, au nom de l'amour, au nom de tes rêves secrets, au nom de la simple aventure d'être vivant

Peu m'importe quelles planètes sont en conjonction avec ta lune.

Je veux savoir si tu as touché le centre de ta tristesse, si tu t'es ouvert aux trahisons de la vie ou si tu t'es ratatiné, refermé de peur de ressentir une douleur de plus.

Je veux savoir si tu peux t'asseoir avec la douleur, la mienne ou la tienne, et rester là sans bouger, sans essayer de la cacher, de l'éviter ou de la travestir

Je veux savoir si tu peux être un avec la joie, la mienne ou la tienne ; si tu peux danser sauvagement, laisser l'extase te remplir jusqu'au bout des doigts et des orteils sans nous prévenir constamment de faire attention, d'être réaliste sans nous rappeler à chaque seconde que l'être humain a des limites dont on doit tenir compte

Peu importe que l'histoire que tu racontes soit vraie ou fausse.

Je veux savoir si tu es capable de décevoir quelqu'un pour rester fidèle à toi-même ; si tu peux supporter d'être accusé de trahison pour ne pas trahir ton âme ; si tu peux être sans foi et cependant digne de confiance

Je veux savoir si tu peux continuer de voir la beauté même quand ce n'est pas très joli au jour le jour et si tu as choisi de nourrir ta vie à cette source

Je veux savoir si tu peux vivre avec l'échec, le tien comme le mien, te tenir néanmoins au bord du lac et crier Ouiiiii ! à la pleine lune argentée

Peu importe où tu habites, combien d'argent tu as.

Je veux savoir si tu peux te lever après une nuit de douleur et de désespoir, épuisé et meurtri, et faire ce qu'il faut pour les enfants

Peu importe qui tu connais, par quel chemin tu es venu ici. Je veux savoir si tu te tiendras au centre du feu avec moi sans chercher à t'en aller ou à reculer
Peu importe ce que tu as étudié, où, avec qui.

Je veux savoir ce qui te porte et te soutient à l'intérieur quand tout le reste s'est évanoui

Je veux savoir si tu peux être seul avec toi-même et si tu aimes vraiment ta propre compagnie dans les moments vides
