Chinese sprinter Liu Cuiqing broke her own Paralympic record to become champion at the women's 400m T11 Finals of the Tokyo Games on August 28, 2021. T11 is a class of sporting events, recognised by the International Paralympics Committee, which are held for athletes with visual impairments. Liu said she could not have achieved her 56.25-second finish without Xu Donglin, the guide runner she describes as “literally my eyes”. After earning her gold medal in the women’s 400m T11, Liu went on to take silver in the 100m T11 event on September 1. The 2020 Paralympic Games are being held in the Japanese capital from August 24-September 5.
