How To Build A Wooden Sheath | Damascus Steel Knife Sheath
In this build video I show you how I made two wooden sheaths for my new Damascus steel knife that I recently purchased. I made one sheath out of curly maple and the other out of an exotic wood called Chechen. I wanted the maple to be a contrasting look and the Chechen to be something that matched the color of the handle of the knife.
To make the sheath I begin by resawing the lumber at the band saw. Next I run the boards through my drum sander to take them down to their final thickness. Over at the table saw I cut the pieces to their final widths and lengths.
To remove the waste where the knife will go, I first trace the blade on to the handles and then using an 1/8" router bit, I remove the waste. To protect the knife while it's in the sheath, I put flocking on the inside. I did that by applying the glue, and then shooting the flock on to the glue to dry.
Finally, I routed a chamfer on 4 edges of the sheath and then applied a couple coats of a wipe on poly.
Let me know which sheath you think looks better with the knife in a comment below.
