DMF 1630 hyrail gear instillation PART 1

So I have had this old drywall truck for a bit over a year. I already replaced the forks with a grapple, so it was super handy picking up old railroad ties and laying out new ones, and even moving sticks of rail.

But I need it to be able to ride the tracks, so I purchased a set of Diversified Metal Fabricators (DMF) 1630 Hyrail gear. Hyrail gear allows a truck to operate on roads, and on the railroads. The rear wheels simply guide the rear of the truck, the braking and propulsion is provided by the rubber tire contact to the rails. On smaller pickup size trucks, the front wheels can ride on the rails as well. But for large trucks, the front has to come completely up off the tracks and ride solely on the railgear. This is because the front tires are too wide.

Watch this first video as I mount the rear set, and soon to come will be the front. Then we will go for a test trip on the tracks. Stay tuned!

Truck is a 1989 Ford L8000 with the 7.8l diesel and an 18spd transmission.
