Family Centered Rounds brings your child's care team together every day during your stay at Nationwide Children's Hospital, and is an important part of your experience, because you are a valued and important part of the care your child recieves. It is our goal to partner with you to create the best environment for your child to progress and heal, and get you home as quickly as possible.
During Family Centered Rounds, your care team will come to your room to talk with you about your child's care plan. We may ask you to review your child's medical history, let us know how your child is eating and sleeping, and if your child is having any pain. We'll also discuss medications, any upcoming treatments, tests or lab results, and your plan for discharge from the hospital.
Everyone present during Family Centered Rounds has a place on your care team, and will introduce themselves to you and your child. Your care team consists of doctors -- including an attending, residents and interns -- your nurse, and others as necessary, such as a care coordinator, pharmacist, dietician or social worker.
Nationwide Children's is a teaching hospital, so there will also be medical or nursing students in your room during rounds. During the teaching portion of rounds, we may discuss possible diagnoses and treatments. We'll explain everything as we go, and please speak up at any time if you have questions or concerns.
We encourage you to participate with us in Family Centered Rounds every day. A member of your care team will talk more with you about Family Centered Rounds and the different ways you can participate.
If at any time you have questions or concerns, just ask your doctor or nurse. And thank you for being part of our team.
