San Marco and San Giorgio - Venice B-Sides
For every world-famous destination in Venice, we think there's another less-known place that's just as great. This video covers important details for visiting the Bell Tower (Campanile) at Piazza San Marco as well as the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. Some could argue that the views at the top of the bell tower on San Giorgio are better than the views from San Marco. But, you might want to include both in your Venice travel plans.
Beware: the bells in the San Giorgio bell tower do ring every half hour, even when visitors are at the top of the tower. It is very loud and can be surprising.
Details on getting to San Giorgio from San Marco using the Vaporetto (Water Bus).
Depart from the San Zaccaria station near Piazza San Marco. The San Zaccaria Station has multiple separate platforms. Find platform B. Vaporetto Route 2 departs from platform B every 13 minutes. Vaporetto routes go in two directions. Make sure you look at the route and take the Vaporetto heading to San Giorgio. San Giorgio is the first stop after departing San Zaccaria. Travel time on the Vaporetto is about 3 minutes.
Watch our video on using the Vaporetto (https://youtu.be/AXUoHL6PoT8) for much more information about buying tickets and planning your routes.
