How To Edit A PhD Thesis.

Here are some important topics to think about when you edit a dissertation:

1. Are the constructs defined early and often? New constructs in every dissertation should be discussed and explained in detail early on in the paper.
2. Are there redundant sections? Tell the authors to remove material that seems redundant or boring when you are reading the thesis.
3. Can you cut out extra phrases? Look for phrases that you can cut out of the dissertation. There are often many phrases that you can cut out and still get the same impact.
4. Are the sections following the guidelines of the university? Most universities and colleges have their own guidelines for writing. Download these guidelines and apply them to the manuscript.
5. Is the reference list a mess? Make sure that the reference list as the same format when editing a dissertation.
6. Can you understand the dissertation? If the dissertation is to complex for a lay editor to read the manuscript, this usually implies that the dissertation needs more work. You can communicate that to the writer when editing the manuscript.
