Dr. Kiran Bedi inspects Revenue Department of Municipal Corporation| Naming and Shaming

SURPRISE VISIT BY HON’BLE Lt. GOVERNOR, DR. KIRAN BEDI:

Dr. Kiran Bedi, Hon’ble Lt. Governor Today paid a surprise visit to Puducherry Municipal corporation revenue wing to see how the scheme of ‘Naming and shaming’ of property tax defaulters was working.
Checking from the collection centre revealed a quantum jump of recoveries. From an average of 4 Lakhs a day was becoming 14 lakhs and still counting.
She was accompanied by the New Pondicherry Municipal Commissioner, Mr. Sudhakar and his team. Also present were officials from NIC and IT dept., besides Mr .R.Sridhararan from Raj Nivas.
The program of ‘Naming and Shaming’ was yielding required impact.
People were using the online facility much more.
This program will not stop now instead be a regular practice. On the contrary, it shall now also be posted on Govt. portal.
The field visit led to an improved coordination between Municipal Commissioner and NIC to add more parameters to the online software to include essential citizen friendly applications like change of ownership, online trade licenses, online demand notices, and any other Grievance.
Standard Operating Procedure should be formulated to aid training in laws and rules to commence before officer daily, hereafter.
Revenues now being generated can be used now for buying essential hardware to use software already made by the NIC. Common Service Centres too will be added to facilitate ease payments
