John Haley "Zoot" Sims (October 29, 1925 – March 23, 1985) was an American jazz saxophonist, playing mainly tenor but also alto (and, later, soprano) saxophone. He first gained attention in the "Four Brothers" sax section of Woody Herman's big band, afterward enjoying a long solo career, often in partnership with fellow saxmen Gerry Mulligan and Al Cohn.
Sims' last studio recording was a November, 1984 trio session featuring bassist Red Mitchell, recorded in Sweden and released in 1985 by Sonet records. Zoot Sims died of lung cancer on March 23, 1985, in New York City, and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, in Nyack, New York.

Philip Wells Woods (November 2, 1931 – September 29, 2015) was an American jazz alto saxophonist, clarinetist, bandleader, and composer.
Woods was married to Chan Parker, the common-law wife of Charlie Parker, for seventeen years and was the stepfather to Chan's daughter, Kim. On September 4, 2015, he performed a tribute to Charlie Parker with Strings at the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild and announced at the end of the show that he would be retiring. He died a little more than three weeks later of emphysema on September 29, 2015, at the age of 83.

Mike Melillo is an excellent modern jazz pianist who would be much better known in the jazz world had he not relocated to Italy. After attending Rutgers, Melillo led the house trio at the Tap Room in Clifton, New Jersey, where he had an opportunity to work with many top jazz musicians. He was part of Sonny Rollins' band from 1965-1967, co-led a group with guitarist Harry Leahey in 1967, and then concentrated on composition, living on a farm in New Jersey and, starting in 1973, the Poconos. Melillo began working with Phil Woods later that year and became a member of Woods' quartet and quintet, playing regularly with the altoist until Melillo went solo in 1980. Two years later he moved to Italy, where he worked regularly as a leader, although outside of the jazz spotlight. After a headlining hiatus dating back to 1988's Recycle, Melillo finally resurfaced in 1995 with Alternate Changes for Bud; Bopcentric followed two years later.

Steven Dirk Gilmore (born January 21, 1943, Trenton, New Jersey) is an American jazz double-bassist raised in the Philadelphia area.
In the 1980s he played with John Coates Jr., Meredith D'Ambrosio, Dave Frishberg, Hal Galper, Tom Harrell, and Toshiko Akiyoshi, as well as with Phil Woods. He and Woods would remain collaborators into the 1990s. In 1988 he began working with Dave Liebman, with whom he would work intermittently through the late 1990s. Other associations in the 1990s included Tony Bennett, Carol Sloane, Susannah McCorkle, Bill Charlap, and Jim Hall. In 2000, he played with Lee Konitz in a group including Peter Bernstein, Mark Turner, Bill Goodwin

F. Bill Goodwin (born Los Angeles, California, January 8, 1942) is an American jazz drummer. In 1974, he became a founding member of the Phil Woods Quartet. He worked with Woods for forty years as a drummer and record producer, winning three Grammy Awards.
He has performed with Bill Evans, Lee Konitz Dexter Gordon, Jim Hall, Bobby Hutcherson, June Christy, Joe Williams, Tony Bennett, Mose Allison, and The Manhattan Transfer. He has been a featured performer at the W. C. Handy Music Festival for many years, serving as a member of the W. C. Handy Jazz All-Stars with guitarist Mundell Lowe, guitarist Tom Wolfe, pianist and vocalist Johnny O'Neal, pianist and vocalist Ray Reach, and drummer Chuck Redd.
