Introduction to Christ the Savior Food Pantry - Help us grow!

St. John Chrysostom is known to have said, "Feeding the poor is a greater work than raising the dead." At Christ the Savior Orthodox Church in Wayne, WV we are endeavoring to take this to heart. In 2015, we opened Christ the Savior Food Pantry under the auspices of the parish to meet the growing need of those living in Wayne County. In the past 5 years, we estimate that we have provided food assistance to more than 15,000 individuals and the pantry itself has become a focal point of community unity, especially between the Orthodox parishes in our area as well as Holy Cross Monastery, who all take an active role in our charitable efforts.
Over the past 5 years, the number of people coming to the food pantry has grown steadily and we are now essentially out of room to grow further. For this reason, we are turning to the larger community requesting assistance to build our new food pantry facility, which will double as the parish hall for Christ the Savior parish. It will house a professional kitchen as well as a large dedicated food pantry space, the combination of which will allow us to eventually add hot food service to our charitable efforts.
We are turning to you because we are simply unable to make this happen on our own. Wayne sits as an economically depressed community in an already economically depressed state and the need in our backyard is certainly growing. We invite you to be a part of what we are doing to spread the love of our Savior Jesus Christ to those in our struggling community.
