It’s only been a couple of days since the mourning of Zayn Malik’s 1D departure began, but he’s not hiding. In fact he opened up quite a bit about the whole situation just yesterday.
In an interview with the U.K. publication, The Sun, Zayn went into more detail as to why exactly he decided to take another direction.
He told The Sun QUOTE –“ I can't do this anymore. I did try to do something that I wasn't happy doing for a while, for the sake of maybe other people's happiness—and that was mainly the fans. And I only ever tried to do it for the fans, and it was only ever for them. And, basically, I'm only upset I feel like I may have let them down in some sort of way. That's the main thing that I don't want to happen. It's not that I've turned my back on them or anything, it's just that I just can't do that anymore because it's not real to me."
As for the massive outcry of reactions since the official announcement was made, Zayn admits that the last few days have been QUOTE – “crazy and wild and a bit mad [but] I feel like I'm doing what's right, and right by myself and right by the boys, so I feel good. It's been really good for me, because I feel it's been a bit different to what other bands have broke up by, or when a member's left or whatever. My band has been really supportive. They've been really cool about it. And they understand that it's not real to me anymore. They still want to do it for a while, so they're going to carry on doing what they want to do. And I think they're doing to do OK for a while. I think they're going to be cool.”
In regard to the rumored beef with the other boy,s Zayne says that the speculations “couldn't be more wrong.”
Zayn even shared that he is beginning to work on some of his own solo projects and in the meantime he plans to QUOTE –“be myself for a bit. I think I'm just going to write and relax and chill."
And as sad as we are to no longer see Zayn stand as an official member of 1D, we’re happy that he’s taking time for himself.
But for those of you who were hoping Zayn’s departure was just an early April Fool’s joke, sorry. When asked by The Sun if he would be returning to 1D, Zayne said QUOTE - "I don't think I can really answer that, really, but, I don't know.”
