EV batteries. Do I need a big battery or not?

I've been keeping State of Charge data for my Kona Electric for about a year along with solar data and charging data. With some simple maths I can determine how many kilowatt hours of energy I used in my Kona between 2 days.

If I highlight those above 28kwh I can see how many instances in an entire year I would be inconvenienced more IF I had bought a smaller range EV and what that inconvenience would've been like.

Are the enthusiasts correct that we don't travel as far as we think so don't really need a long range EV?

Looking at my own data I can see there are 5 trips in the last year, October to October where I exceeded 28kwh. Two included overnight stops and those were the longest plus three other trips where we returned the same day and charging would not have been a big inconvenience.
Do 5 trips exceeding 28kwh justify buying a bigger battery EV with more range. I thought so when I bought my Kona Electric but I'm not so sure now I'm more experienced.
