Mennonite Platz Recipe - Follow Along As We Attempt Baking A Mennonite Dessert For The First Time

Today my sisters and I attempted making Paska for the first time. It was a total fail so we tried Mennonite Fruit Platz instead! We are making our way through our Grandma's old Mennonite cookbook and attempting to bake from it even though it offers little to no direction and assumes one knows what they are doing hah!

This recipe actually turned out really well. We did make a few changes but here it is with out suggestions.

Mennonite Fruit Platz Recipe:

Base:
2 cups flour
2/3 tsp salt
2/3 cup butter
6-8 tsp cold water

Mix flour and salt together. Add in butter and mix. Add in your water and mix by hand until the dough comes together. It will be similar to a pie dough.
Smush into the bottom of an 8x8 baking dish.
Layer with thinly sliced apples and sprinkle generously with sugar.

Topping:

2 eggs
pinch of salt
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking powder

Mix together and smooth over the apples. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 25min.
