Homemade Gelli Plate and Deli Flowers
Update** My gelli plate has started to mold. The Frugal Crafter has suggested replacing the alcohol with glycerin. I have not tried this yet.
For Example 3cups water, 3 cups glycerin, 12 Tablespoons gelatin. Adding sugar to the mix will help preserve the plate to. Here is an alternative recipe with sugar here: http://calligraphycards-shazinoz.blogspot.ca/2013/05/how-to-make-gelli-plate-or-jelly-pad.html

Homemade Gelatin Plate Recipe:
Your local grocery store or Walmart will have the ingredients you need. You may need to check in the pharmacy department for the glycerin.
Ingredients:
10 packages (each = 1 tbsp.) unflavored gelatin
1.5 cups rubbing alcohol
.75 cups glycerin
1.75 cups boiling water
Alcohol and glycerin should be at room temperature to start. Combine them in a bowl. Add in gelatin and stir. Add in boiling water, stirring until gelatin is dissolved and all ingredients are well mixed.
Pour into a shallow pan with sides at least 1" high. Allow the plate to set up in a cool place, making sure it's level.
This recipe will make a fairly thick gelatin plate at least 8" X 10." You can also adjust the recipe to make a larger plate if you wish, or make a couple of smaller plates. Experiment with what will work best for you.
Baby wipes will work well to clean your homemade gelatin plate after you're finished creating wonderful art with it.
Don't despair if the plate gets damaged. The pieces of gelatin can be put into a glass bowl and microwaved for a minute or so, then re-poured and allowed to set up again.
