Multiple Juveniles Detained After Stolen Hyundai Joy Ride

LOCATION: 33rd Ave & Loma Lane
CITY: Phoenix
DETAILS: Phoenix Police located a stolen Hyundai Elantra occupied by 6 people traveling near 27th Avenue & Camelback Road.
Officers requested assistance from the air unit and tactical support bureau units and devised a plan to deploy a Grappler device preemptively in order to avoid the possibility of a pursuit.
Ground units tracked the vehicle from a distance as the air unit responded from the Laveen area.
Approximately 30 seconds prior to the air unit arriving overhead, the vehicle began driving in an evasive manner.
The police air unit quickly acquired the vehicle and observed as it traveled north on 27th Ave, cutting through a QT parking lot to then go west on Northern Ave.
The sedan then made a northbound turn onto 33rd Ave where it quickly parked and 6 occupants exited.
Ground units quickly converged on the occupants, ordering them to the ground at gunpoint.
One of the occupants, a juvenile female, fled on foot but was quickly detained 1 block to the west.
4 additional juveniles and one 20-year-old female were called back to officers 1 by 1 and taken into custody.
A Phoenix Police Lieutenant on scene confirmed that the vehicle is registered stolen out of Phoenix and that 5 juveniles are detained.
