Safer Injection Kits Save Lives

Film by Mo Scarpelli: http://moscarpelli.com/

One very concrete difference that members of the Judson community make is assembling "safer injection kits" to prevent the spread of HIV among intravenous drug users.

We assemble between 200-300 kits at each work party. With 25 work parties per year, that's at least 5000 kits that can save lives.

These kits are thankfully accepted by the staff and volunteers of the Lower East Side Harm Reduction Center http://www.leshrc.org/node/12, who distribute the kits as part of their Syringe Exchange, or clean needle, program.

The Enabling Services Accountability Project provides this very helpful PDF of where to get services.

While our work is serious and our mission is important, our work parties are anything but. This is a delightful way to do a good thing, easily, while talking to, and getting to know, other Judson folk. Laughter is the rule! Kit assembly tasks are easily mastered, which leaves time for talk and enjoying a few light snacks.
