India is Now DELETING 20 Million Aadhaar Cards! But Why? #shorts

Recently, the Indian government has been removing or deactivating certain Aadhaar cards as part of a routine clean-up of the national database. This does not mean Aadhaar is being discontinued or that regular citizens are losing their identity cards. The main focus of the action is to remove Aadhaar numbers that belong to people who have passed away or records that have become invalid for various reasons. Since Aadhaar is used in banking, subsidies, and many official processes, keeping the database clean is important to prevent misuse.

Over the years, many Aadhaar numbers of deceased individuals remained active because families did not report the death, or because the system had no automatic way to update life-status information. These active but unused IDs created a risk of fraud. To fix this, the government began identifying and deactivating such Aadhaar numbers so they cannot be misused for financial benefits, loans, or identity-based services.

This clean-up also comes at a time when the government has been simplifying Aadhaar update processes. People can now change details such as name, address, and mobile number more easily through online systems. This reduces errors in the system and helps keep the database more accurate. The goal is to ensure that every Aadhaar number in the country reflects a living, verifiable individual with correct information.

For ordinary citizens, this process does not cause any disruption. If a person’s Aadhaar is valid and active, nothing changes for them. Their card will continue to work for all purposes as usual. The removal of outdated Aadhaar numbers is mainly a security measure, making the system safer and more reliable for everyone.
